The disrupted become the disruptors!

“…this is a ‘now’ moment for incumbent companies. You can go on the offense. You can be the disrupter, instead of the disrupted.”
Ginni Rommety, CEO, IBM
I recently joined Sierra Monitor Corp, a nearly 40 year old ‘Industrial IoT’ company.
Of course, when it started, SMC wasn’t an “IoT” company. It was a company building innovative products to give facility’s managers more control, visibility and insight into the ‘things’ in their location.
For many traditional manufacturers, the label Industrial Internet of Things, or IIoT, was a sign that the market was starting to coming to them. But behind the label, things got complicated:
- How does one leverage the “cloud”?
- What about the base of equipment installed over decades?
- What’s really the value of all this data we’re collecting?
Well, the dust is settling, and the lines are becoming clear. And I read with interest Alan Murray’s piece in Time about IBM and Ginni Rometty’s ‘big bets’.
Central to Ms Rometty’s position, incumbent companies have the experience and knowledge of how things operate. Coupled with the data, they are in the prime position to disrupt their market and their competitors.
From what I’ve learned about Sierra Monitor, it’s expertise and knowledge, and it’s plan to harness data for better business outcomes, I know I’ve joined a disrupter.
If you’re interested in understanding how SMC can make your products smarter, give you access to data to make better decisions, and ultimately deliver a superior customer experience – contact SMC – we’ve got a turnkey IIoT platform that turns your experience and knowledge into value.
