The FieldServer Multiport Protocol Gateway (FS-B35XX) is an extremely flexible tool for integrators looking to connect devices to the cloud and on different physical networks, using different links, and speaking different protocols.

With support for 1,000 points, the Multiport Gateway can easily handle multiple protocol drivers and multiple translations simultaneously with no slowdown in performance. Its unmatched multi-protocol flexibility, ease-of-use, wide deployment, and world-class technical support make the Multiport Protocol Gateway a true Swiss Army knife of systems integration.

The product includes four serial connections (two RS-232, two RS-485), two 10/100 Ethernet ports, and a LonWorks (Free Topology - FT) port. The multiple ports and support for simultaneous protocol execution allow the Multiport Gateway to be used in the most complex integration scenarios. The availability of the second Ethernet port enables the integrator to connect a PC to download configuration changes without disturbing the system connections and without the additional cost of an external hub for the protocol gateway.

Multiport Protocol Gateway units can be configured in the field, with all the necessary instructions and software included with the product. If the user prefers the unit to be pre-configured prior to delivery, Sierra Monitor offers a custom configuration service.

a. Check that the Network Number on the Gateway is unique.

Yes, this can be changed in the config.csv file. Please reference Section 5.1 in the BACnet IP driver manual to see how to set this parameter.

The field device that is configured on the Client-Side of your Gateway is probably not communicating. Please check the Connection Overview

The Multiport Gateway does not come pre-configured by default. The Multiport will contain an example configuration file that will include the drivers that were ordered. This configuration will need to be expanded to match the application. MSA offers a Custom Configuration Service where our Configuration Engineers can build the config.csv which can then be emailed or pre-loaded before shipping. Please contact your Regional Sales Manager for more information.

Your Multiport Gateway may have a corrupted license file or has exceeded the point count license on it. Please take a diagnostic capture of your Multiport Gateway and send it to technical support at

Recovery Mode occurs when an internal Module of the Multiport Gateway firmware has suffered a crash or corruption. A firmware upgrade will be required to resolve.

  1. Download and install the FieldServer Toolbox.
  2. Connect to the Gateway’s Ethernet port
  3. Hit the Diagnostic button on the FieldServer Toolbox
  4. Take a 5-minute, Full Diagnostic of the Gateway

a. Check the Graphical User Interface

  1. Download and install the FieldServer Toolbox.
  2. Connect to the Gateway’s Ethernet port
  3. Use the toolbox to connect to the Gateway
  4. On the Navigation Tree, navigate to View->Connections
  5. Check the Tx Msg and Rx Msg columns for the Protocol. If both columns are incrementing, then the Gateway is communicating to the field device.

b. Take a Diagnostic Capture and Contact Technical Support

  1. Download and install the FieldServer Toolbox.
  2. Connect to the Gateway’s Ethernet port
  3. Hit the Diagnostic button on the FieldServer Toolbox
  4. Take a 5-minute, Full Diagnostic of the Gateway
