​What is FieldPoP?

FieldPoP is a-cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) “freemium” offering. FieldPoP works with Sierra Monitor’s FieldServer IIoT family of protocol gateways, routers, and explorers. Customers that use any FieldServer product are eligible to set up an account on and take advantage of FieldPoP. If you are looking to connect industrial devices or systems to the cloud, look no further than the FieldServer IIoT gateway and the companion FieldPoP device cloud. We eat our own dog food – Sierra Monitor’s own Sentry IT Controllers for gas monitoring and remediation use an embedded FieldServer IIoT Gateway called Sentry InSite to connect to FieldPoP and allow for remote connectivity by facility managers and service providers.

​Your One Stop for Managing Your Devices and Users

Authorized administrators can set up user accounts with the right permissions and make the right user-device assignments on FieldPoP. When a FieldServer product is commissioned in the field and registered to FieldPoP, the FieldServer product automatically appears in the FieldPoP geospatial user interface as a pinpoint icon. Authorized users are then able to remotely connect to their assigned FieldServer products, run FieldServer-resident web applications remotely, and get visibility to and control of (if permitted by the device) the field devices that are connected to the FieldServer IIoT Gateway. The authorized user can diagnose, configure, and better support the field installation.

​Retrieving Field Data, Made Simple

While FieldServer products can extract data from connected field devices and provide local logging capability, the addition of FieldPoP takes data management to a completely different level. Authorized users can decide which subset of data points being collected by the FieldServer they wish to “push up” to the FieldPoP device cloud. Additionally, users can select how often or at what time intervals they want such uploads to the cloud. Users may instead or additionally select a Change of Value (COV) option that sends a data point if the value moves outside a configured dead band. The COV technique minimizes uplink traffic and is used to reduce communication costs, but can also be used to be alerted to changes more immediately than being on a periodic interval. The FieldPoP acts as a staging repository for that data in the cloud and makes that data available to external business, analytics, or long-term storage applications.

​Always Stay Up to Date with Your Devices

When important events such as change in status or the presence of alarms are pushed up from field devices to FieldPoP, FieldPoP can take action. Depending on user-device associations that have been set earlier on FieldPoP, users are notified about status changes to their assigned device, for example being notified if the device has gone offline or generated an alarm. Notification can happen over multiple channels like e-mail or text messaging to smartphones, tablets and PCs. All event notifications, audit logs, and data logs on the FieldPoP can also be exported for reporting. Software upgrades for the FieldServer gateways and for devices (if that feature is supported by the device protocol) can be pushed remotely from the cloud, minimizing unnecessary field visits.

  • 3rd Party Cloud Platform Integration: Use FieldPoP REST APIs with popular business applications like saleforce.com. Adding device data adds context to business applications and enhances their power. Additionally, use the REST APIs to communicate with popular development platforms like AWA or Azure and write custom analytics, visualization or other applications that take advantage of device data.
