Open Path Applications

Open Path Gas Detection

Sierra Monitor offers the Spectrex SafEye range of "line-of-sight" Optical Gas Detectors featuring a new generation of Open Path IR and UV detection systems. Open path spectroscopy offers unprecedented reliability in real-time monitoring of gaseous emissions over large areas, rendering it the accepted technology for industrial and environmental applications.

These systems provide exceptional detection capability of gas/vapor concentrations ranging from as low as Parts Per Million (PPM) levels to Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) levels in a wide range of hazardous conditions and ambient air monitoring.

SafEye System employs a unique flash light source coupled with optical detectors and mathematical algorithms to spectrally analyze an air path ranging from 2 ft. to 450 ft. (0.6m - 140m) with high detection sensitivity in both UV and IR spectral bands. The system is compatible with a wide range of control systems providing multiple outputs (dry contacts, 4-20mA, RS-485).

The open path line-of-sight gas detection system can monitor and transmit an alarm signal prior to occurrence of fire or an explosion, identify the chemical family concerned and activate preventative systems.

The SafEye gas detection system can serve as a process control component in the chemical and petrochemical industries, or as a safety system in commercial and industrial applications.

The Open Path Gas Detectors available from Sierra Monitor include:

Model 3560-2XX Flash Type Open Path Detectors - used to monitor for combustible gases at LEL levels over a line of sight of 460 feet. The 2XX series is built for reliability and continued operation under all types of extreme environmental conditions. .The unique flash source gives a very powerful radiation signal vor a very short burst of time.

Model 3560-7XX Flash Type XENON Open Path Gas Detectors - The 7XX has the same performance advantages of the 2XX series, but adds valuable design features that are important to certain applications. These additional features include: heated lens, EExde housing (electronics are separated from wiring terminals), external data port that can hook directly to PDA or handheld device as opposed to wiring inside the 2XX series for RS-485 communications, and stainless steel enclosure as standard.

Model 3560-4XX UV Open Path Gas Detector - provides sensitive (PPM levels) monitoring of Hydrogen Sulfide, Ammonia and Aromatic gases over an open path of up to 330 feet.
