Flame Simulators/Testors

Flame Simulators/Testors are available to aid the user in safely testing their flame detector in the field without declassifying the area. These devices will simulate a flame signature specific for that model of flame detector. Always be sure to order the flame simulator that matches your flame detector. They are intended for use in those applications where regular testing, as required by NFPA 72, is necessary but the use of a real fire is impractical.

Following is a table indicating which Flame Simulator is to be used for each Flame Detector available from Sierra Monitor. Click on the Flame Simulator part number to access the appropriate data sheet.

Mounts

As optical devices it is important that a flame detector be mounted properly enabling it to "view" the area of the potential flame. A flame detector must have a clear area of vision. The Sierra Monitor Flame Detectors including the 3100, 3200 and 3300 have 120o cone of vision allowing them to "see" over a wide area.

The Model 3200 and 3300 flame detectors mount flat to a surface with the mounting bracket provided with the units. The following table indicates which swivel or tilt mount should be used for each flame detector.

PDA - Configuration and Diagnostics Tool

Personal pocket computers that perform data analysis, data-logging and provide a lot of important information to the user are commonplace in many industries.

Spectrex has developed a dedicated Pocket PC to communicate with most SharpEye Optical Flame Detectors (Models 3500-04, 3510-04, 3520-01, 3520-02, 3520-03, 3520-04, and 3525-04) and access the necessary information for configuration, installation and maintenance.

Special software, developed for use with the PDA, enables the user to communicate with the detector, change the detector setup, perform manual built-in-test (BIT), view the detector signals and status and save the detector 's data to a log-file.

Laser Detection Area Coverage Pointer

Does the optical detector cover the entire hazardous area that needs protection? Has the installer located the detector at the right location and does the detector 's cone of vision cover the most dangerous spot?

These questions can be answered with the use of a simple tool -the new Laser Detection Area Coverage Pointer that designates the optical flame detector 's area of coverage (cone of vision) on-site at the specific installation. This add-on accessory enables the designer and installer to optimize the detector 's location and the actual detection area coverage of each installed detector.

The device comprises two laser emitters, one emitter positioned on the central axis whilst the other emitter is positioned on a rotating lever, at an angle of 45º.The central laser emitter coincides with the detector 's central line of sight and the other emitter rotates 360º to simulate the detector 's cone of vision (90º) thus providing a view of full detection area coverage.

Air Shield

Optical flame detectors are often used in highly polluted or dirty areas that force maintenance personnel to access the detector frequently and clean its optical window. The special Air Shield, developed for SharpEye optical flame detectors, allows their installation under tough environmental conditions where they may be exposed to oil vapors, sand, dust and other particulate matter.

The Air Shield allows connection of a continuous compressed air source, directed onto the detector 's external window, which prevents accumulation of dirt or dust on its optical surface. The installation of an Air Shield on the detector reduces the amount of maintenance and prolongs the time between maintenance/cleaning cycles.

High Temperature Duct Mount

Designed to allow flame detection in ducts where high temperatures exist. Comprises a special duct mount arrangement with optical window and heat sink to allow installation in high temperature duct applications. This special High Temp mount can be used with all Spectrex flame detectors except 20/20XI, 20/20MI.
