Sentry LANServer System for Landfill Gas Monitoring

Image Stan's Trucking landfill in Michigan was closed and sealed in the 70's but due to the potential of Methane gassing off the landfill, plus the new homes being built in proximity of the landfill, the owner decided to improve the gas monitoring at the site. EQ Corporation won the bid to develop this gas monitoring solution and came to Sierra Monitor. They found that SMC Infrared Methane gas sensors on the landfill and SMC catalytic bead combustible gas sensors near the homes provided the monitoring coverage the customer required.

Sierra Monitor suggested use of the Sentry LANServer to enable the managers to view the gas monitoring data remotely via a standard browser. The landfill operator, system integrator and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality were very impressed with the capability of the Sentry gas monitoring system, including the LANServer. The engineer from the Michigan DEQ said, "This is simply amazing, the LANServer provides the ability of remote oversight of landfills that we have desired for quite some time."

Major Gas Producer Uses SMC/FieldServer Package to Monitor/Alarm/Control Gas and Flame Safety

Image Following two fire incidents a major gas producer in Texas directed their corporate engineering department to design a high reliability fire and gas detection system to be installed on their compressors throughout the company. Their engineering department decided that Sierra Monitor was the company that could meet their full needs.

Using both SMC combustible gas sensors and SMC flame detectors interfacing to a Sentry controller they had the various zone relay logic capability needed for each of their compressors. The Modbus output to FieldServer gateways and Sentry Commander was configured as a redundant network for reliability. The user was particularly pleased that Sierra Monitor was able to supply all of the components needed in this company wide project due to the integration capability of the Sentry and the ability to achieve the target Safety Instrumentation Level (SIL) utilizing all the options available on Sentry
